Growth is a grind. Whether you’re building a team, leading a ministry, launching a business, or becoming a better version of yourself, development demands discipline. But here's the truth too many leaders miss:
If you don’t stop to celebrate, rest, and enjoy the ride, you’ll burn out before you break through.
We often treat growth like a straight line—always forward, always upward, no room for slowing down. But development is more like a journey: there are milestones, detours, stretches of momentum, and seasons where the work feels unseen. In all of it, celebration and rest aren’t luxuries—they’re fuel.
Celebrate Along the Way
We don’t celebrate enough. In our culture of “what’s next?” and “never satisfied,” we move past wins way too quickly. But celebration is a spiritual discipline—it reminds us that God is working, and so are we.
Hit a milestone? Celebrate it.
Completed a hard season? Pause to reflect on how far you’ve come.
Took one faithful step in a hard direction? That matters.
Celebration creates momentum. It reminds your brain and your heart that progress is happening—even if you’re not where you want to be yet. It also shapes team culture. People who feel seen and celebrated are more resilient, more loyal, and more motivated.
The Bible is full of moments where God commands celebration. Why? Because celebration reinforces identity and direction. It’s a reminder: This is who we are. This is where we’re going. And this is worth rejoicing over.
Rest Isn't Weakness—It’s Wisdom
There’s a reason God created a rhythm of work and rest. Rest is not a break from growth—it’s part of it.
When you rest:
Your mind recharges
Your creativity resets
Your soul realigns with your purpose
Whether it’s a Sabbath, a walk outside, a day without a to-do list, or a vacation where you actually unplug, rest recalibrates your perspective. It reminds you that you are not your performance. You’re a person—created to work from rest, not just toward it.
Jesus modeled this perfectly. He withdrew often. He didn’t heal every person in every town. He slept in the middle of storms. And still, His life changed the world. Resting isn’t stepping out of leadership. It’s stepping into it with clarity and renewal.
Enjoy the Ride
Yes, there are goals to chase. Yes, there’s a mission to fulfill. But don’t miss the joy of the journey.
Laugh with your team.
Reflect on where you were a year ago.
Take joy in learning, even through failure.
The path to growth isn't just about the outcome—it's about who you're becoming. And if you can celebrate, rest, and enjoy the ride, you’ll be far more effective—and far more fulfilled—when you get there.
